MEET KEVIN CHAVOUS
Democratic Candidate for At-Large Member of the Council of the District of Columbia
Dear Neighbors,

I’ve lived in DC my entire life, and today I am an attorney raising a family here in Ward 7. This city shaped who I am, and my career has been focused on work that affects people’s everyday quality of life – especially housing stability, education, public safety, and access to essential services.

I’m a proud graduate of Howard University, where I earned my undergraduate degree in political science with honors and later my law degree. While in school, I worked with Housing Counseling Services, helping low-income tenants understand their rights and avoid losing their homes, and at a DC law firm, where I saw firsthand how policy decisions show up in people’s real lives.

During law school, I worked at AARP, assisting seniors facing foreclosure tied to property tax issues and reverse mortgages. That experience showed me how easily people can fall through the cracks – and how important it is for the government to be practical, accessible, and responsive, especially for older residents. I also had the opportunity to study abroad in South Africa and intern at the country’s largest law firm, which broadened my perspective on justice, governance, and public service.

After being admitted to practice law in DC in 2012, I built a legal practice focused on housing, landlord-tenant issues, real estate, and personal injury. Most recently, I spent four years serving at the DC Council as Committee and Policy Director for At-Large Councilmember Anita Bonds, helping lead legislative strategy, agency oversight, and policy implementation affecting residents across all eight wards.

Over the years, I’ve also served in a number of civic leadership roles in DC, including as President of the DC Young Democrats, a board member of the United Planning Organization, a member of the DC Democratic State Committee, and currently as DC’s National Committeeman and member of the Democratic National Committee.

Outside of work, my family and my community shape how I see the world and the responsibilities of public service. I’m a member of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church and a proud husband and dad. My wife, Ashley, and I are raising our two children, Kendall and Cameron, with a personal commitment to the future of this city and the next generation.

I’m running for DC Council At-Large because I believe our city needs experienced leadership ready to deliver on day one – leadership that understands how policy turns into real results for residents. I want to build on my experience with a steady, practical approach focused on safe streets, affordable housing, strong starts for children, economic opportunity for working families, dignity and support for seniors, and a city government that works clearly and efficiently for everyone.

I would be honored to earn your vote for DC Council At-Large.
Kevin Chavous
